One of the things Rip and I love to do is help folks find little nooks and crannies in their home for better optimization of space and practical use of that space.
In this photo you see a wall to the left of the door/window and in that space, look at what all is utilized that’s been added….
A bench for putting on shoes with a couple of drawers and slide in nook underneath for holding boots and galoshes.
Rip and I do not put our coats and jackets in our master bedroom closet, but instead we store them in a hall closet. BUT that’s why I love this idea of the hooks you typically see in an area like this. This is an obvious use of space for storing coats, jackets, and shoes…and it’s just perfect! The idea of hanging coats and jackets so close to a back door simplifies routines, that’s for sure!
Looking at the bench, the two things that really stand out to me are: 1) the fact that it has been supported by the beautiful wooden supports for built-in drawers – versus – made to be a “boxed” look with unused space. 2) I love the use of the basket under the bench for outside toys, gloves, bats, balls, etc. By the looks of things, the goal was met – to use the entire space for “going outside and coming back inside.” SO highly functional, organized and a workable space – it works for the family’s needs. I do love the beadboard on the walls, too … any time you can add wood texture to a highly used area, it will prove to be a wise decision in the end.
